Our Services

Triage

In accordance with international standards, all patients presenting to CMJAH ED will be triaged to the appropriate facility for consultation and care. The validated and nationally adopted South African Triage Scale is used to triage patients. Priority is given to patients needing emergency care. Patients may be down referred to the nearest local clinic or primary care hospital for initial consultation and management.

Clinical Services

Paediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) – Area 161 is a dedicated PEU. Children from birth to 16 years will be seen to in the PEU. 24 hour cover is provided by medical officers and registrars, and supervised by Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Specialists.

Adult Emergency Unit (AEU) – Area 165 is a dedicated AEU. Patients from 16 years onwards are seen to in the AEU. 24 hour cover is provided by medical officers and registrars, and supervised by Specialists in Emergency Medicine and from all other Speciality disciplines.

Academics

CMJAH ED is accredited with the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Witwatersrand and the Health Professions Council of South Africa for undergraduate and postgraduate training. Training is provided for medical / allied / nursing and clinical associates. Training is via didactic lectures and bedside clinical teaching.

CMJAH ED is an accredited American Heart Association and International SOS training site for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) courses. Please refer to the registration page for more information on upcoming courses

Research

CMJAH ED is actively involved with various research activities, including clinical trials.
